Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The EHS Specialist is responsible for leading the environmental health and safety (EHS) program requirements and improvement of the performance, compliance, and continuous improvement safety culture. Works closely with the Director of of EHS to ensure all requirement corporate, global, and regulatory EHS program expectations are implemented to standard. Provide safety management expertise to assigned US locations to help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations and company policies and procedures. Ensure EHS is promoted and championed at the location in line with the Global EHS standards and policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership to drive strategic and technical improvements and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Global standards for location.
  • Assists location in managing EHS regulatory compliance programs from all required governmental agencies.
  • Partners with lab leadership on implementing EHS initiatives, provides guidance and direction, and coordinates and facilitates EHS discussions.
  • Coordinate and oversee the EHS management system implementation, maintain, improve, and support for location.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining effective EHS programs, foster a proactive work environment via proactive programs and interventions.
  • Participates with the leadership teams in moving the organization forward in progressive and continuous improvement environment.
  • Align and assist with the implementation of EHS Global (GESH) strategy in collaboration with lab leadership.
  • Partner with Workers' Compensation carrier to review and reduce claims, this includes tracking costs and case management of all recordable injuries.
  • Collect injury reporting and analyze any trends to reduce injury claims. Coordinate corrective actions to reduce claims and lost time.

  • General knowledge of the requirements for importing chemicals under the Toxic Substance Control Act, EPA regulations, RCRA standards, Clean Air Act, and state requirements for hazardous waste generator status.
  • Ensure all required permits, licenses, and regulatory reporting requirements are completed and filed timely.
  • File NPDES applications as needed. Audit labs to determine if exempt locations meet the requirements for exemption certification. Maintain SWPPP, and ensure timely reporting of MPCA and MCES required reporting.
  • Is designated lab Facility Chemical Safety Supervisor's (FCSS) maintain program requirements.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures and files within the document revision process, and ensure they are updated at least annually.
  • Maintain OSHA log for Ramsey lab and ensure annual DOL and OSHA required reporting completed timely.
  • Ensure that all environmental compliance reporting and permitting is completed on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • 2- 5 years EHS program management in manufacturing setting
  • Experience of leading management and influencing others to embrace and implement continuous safety improvement culture
  • Ability to manage personnel with strong leadership ability to motivate and coach personnel to accomplish company and global strategic goals
  • Valid driver's license and good driving history
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulatory standards on safety and health
  • Environmental management experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a laboratory working with water, caustic and acidic chemicals and exposed to hazardous chemicals, occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; Occasional dusty air with flying particulates, and office environment sitting for extended periods of time, using a keyboard & mouse, lifting up to 10 pounds and speaking in a professional manner in person and via phone.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
