We look for students who:

  • Have or will obtain a Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering, Sciences, Technology or Business by December 2023 or May 2024
  • Previous internship experience (preferably in Manufacturing or functional area)
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Desire to work in a Manufacturing environment
  • Technical aptitude
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Under general supervision conceives, develops, implements and follows throughproducts, processes, machinery, equipment, and procedures. Is responsible for engineering projects including design, parts selection and specification, construction, vendor (external) and customer (internal) interface, and start-up.

What you'll be doing:

  • Works Safely and promotes safety in all aspects of employment and design.
  • Provides directions to drafters or designers and technicians assigned to their project.
  • Designs complex systems with new equipment and supervises the construction, installation, start-up, and debugging of these systems.
  • Makes branch plant trips or vendor visits as required to accomplish project objectives.
  • Assists in making installed cost and schedule estimates on new and reworked machinery for project proposals.
  • Works as part of project teams; communicates and cooperates with other team members.
  • Works closely with paper mill technical and manufacturing personnel.
  • Contributes ideas for product development, process improvement, and equipment development that will improve safety, improve operation efficiency, improve sustainability, or otherwise provide a competitive advantage.
  • Work on multiple projects at one time.
  • Maintains a program of self-development in product, process, and technical expertise by means of outside reading, technical courses, etc.
  • Maintains and improves computer skills (word processing, spread sheets, MS Project, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Provide Technical Service to Sonoco's Paper Mills, providing troubleshooting. and other technical assistance to the mill engineering and management personnel.
  • Identifies and helps implement cost savings opportunities for the mills and projects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for Non-Technical Degrees is between $63,500 and $66,000. The annual base salary range for Technical Degrees is between $72,000 and $80,000.
