Position Summary:
The UC Irvine Cancer Research Institute (CRI) is an organized research unit dedicated to basic cancer research. The CRI has over 60 faculty affiliates from departments in the Schools of Biological Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Physical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Science. The CRI supports faculty research, organizes cancer related training and functions as the basic science arm of the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. The CRI offices are in Sprague Hall on the UCI main campus.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures to develop, implement and support new and existing programs for the Cancer Research Institute; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of complex issues within tight timeframes. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Plays an instrumental role in organizing educational seminars, campus-wide symposiums, workshops, national conferences and other activities for the Cancer Research Institute and general cancer community at UCI. Event coordination includes negotiating contracts, determining agendas with planning committees, facilitating registration payments, website design and management, interacting with individuals at all levels within internal and external organizations, cultivating relationships with sponsors, on-site meeting facilitation, and post-meeting evaluation. Leads planning committees, develops meeting budgets and programmatic plans and manages communication to internal and external audiences. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation, including assisting with training grants. Primary responsibilities include oversight of the Youth Science Fellowship program for high school students, coordination of the annual campus wide symposium, and administrative support for day-to-day training grant activities and annual progress reporting to sponsors. High School program duties include: soliciting program applications, interacting with students and parents, organizing the curriculum, evaluating the training program, and presenting data to CRI leadership and sponsors.

$66,700.00 - $118,500.00 (Annual Salary)

Required:
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic research environment or equivalent setting
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.


Preferred:
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of NIH grant mechanisms, including large multidisciplinary multi-component grants such as T32 and R25 awards
  • Demonstrated awareness of implicit bias in research and administrative settings.
  • Proactive in advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.


Special Conditions Required:
  • Requires occasional after hours and weekend work and travel to offsite locations for meetings/events/workshops (2-3 times per year)
  • Attendance at 1-2 national conferences for professional development in various locations per year
